About John Clarke Olson

John Clarke Olson was born in Connecticut and moved to Vermont in 1967 following military service. John and his wife have two grown children and also grandchildren. John has been painting since 1975 and continues to paint in a realistic style using oils and palette knife. He paints in his studio as well as outside on location. This allows him to create the mood and atmosphere in his paintings of the many rural landscapes and villages that grace our beautiful state of Vermont.

By 2008 John had visited and painted well over 240 towns in Vermont. His goal is to paint from all 251 Vermont towns!

John Clarke Olson is self taught. He has taken painting classes with the late Stan Marc Wright from Stowe, Vermont, David A Dunlop at Southern Vermont Art Center, and TM Nicholas, a plein air painter from Gloucester Mass.

John and his wife travel throughout northern New England to photograph subjects for him to paint. He exhibits his work in several fine Vermont galleries and his works are included in many private collections throughout the United States and internationally.

The Village Frame Shoppe & Gallery is proud to exhibit John Clarke Olson's original paintings!
